Aussie wonder stuns Brazilians

02 Nov, 2009 08:49 AM
NEVER before has a 12-year-old Kid from Oz had a soccer-mad Brazilian crowd chanting his name or been offered a trial with one of Brazil's most famous clubs.

Pint-sized Keysborough Haileybury College student Omar Ammache has been selected for a three-month trial with Clube Atletico Mineiro and if successful will be offered a three-year contract.

But it was the razzle dazzle footwork to slip around several opponents, and amazing ball control during a match with an under 14 squad from private soccer academy Australian Football Skool last month that got the Brazilians' attention.

"During the game I did this trick and took on about three or four players and then the crowd of about 50 started yelling my name.

"My coach [in Brazil] told my coach in Australia and he told me that they wanted me to come back to play in their under-13s.

''I'll be going back with my Australian coach to see how I cope with the kids over there, and to see if I feel homesick without my parents and family being there. If that's OK, I'll stay there for three years."
