PEARCEDALE will need to be at its best with the bat next week if it is to chase down an imposing score of 277 by Flinders on Saturday.
After a busy recruiting drive over the off-season, Flinders is the overwhelming favourite to win the sub-district flag this season, and Saturday's performance showed why.
For Pearcedale, it was a difficult day in the field as they struggled to take wickets at regular intervals. The Panthers bowlers pride themselves on bowling one side of the wicket. They were, however, unable to stop the flow of runs.
Skipper Kaine Smith led his side admirably with four wickets, while Aidan Bock picked up the only other wicket taken for the day.
For the Panthers to be any chance next week, Gavin Moore and Smith will need to fire with the bat.
