KOO WEE RUP failed its acid test against Cardinia on Saturday in a replay of last year's Premier Division grand final.
Batting has been Koowee's strength this season but it wilted under a Cardinia attack and was shot out for 77. Had it not been for 35 from wicketkeeper Chris Bright, things could have been even worse.
Cardinia passed the total two wickets down after 29 overs.
Despite the loss, the Demons remain in second spot on the ladder and are in no danger of losing that position with only two games to go.
Tooradin is outside the top four for the first time this season after its loss to Catani.
Batting first, the Gulls posted 165 with Ashley Adams the star with 68. Brother Brenton batted well at the top of the order for 24. Catani passed the total for the loss of just two wickets.
In district, Devon Meadows continued its good form with a dominant victory over Kilcunda/Bass.
Batting first, Devon was on top with an all-round performance from Lucas Carroll (54), Billy Loudon (36) and Luke Howard (24no] in a score of 8-209.
