PATIENCE was a virtue that Hampton Park's batsmen displayed in compiling 198 against Buckley Ridges on Saturday.
In blustery conditions at home, Rhys Fegan led by example at the top of the order with 27, and Danny Cortese kept up the momentum with a well-crafted 51.
Cortese received little support from his middle order as the Redbacks slumped to 4-80, before Englishman Jon Rudge came to the crease.
The pair combined for a vital 96-run stand before the dismissal of Cortese triggered a major batting collapse, losing 5-10. Rudge made 47 before he was out lbw.
Turf 4 was dominant against Springvale South, with an outright victory now a major possibility after shooting South for 84.
Glen Rees was the chief destroyer with 4-16. Youngster Sheldon Cordery provided great support with 3-22. In reply, the Redbacks scored 5-84, with Stephen Boltong continuing his good form with 40.
C grade will need to be at its best with the bat in chasing Narre Warren's 197. With 15 overs remaining, the Redbacks were in trouble at 3-29.
A dynamic innings from Adrian Calcedo was the highlight of Egrade's match against Lynbrook. Calcedo plundered the ball to all parts of the ground in a 165 not out in his side's total of 6-270. Jake Thomas hit 35 in a 140-run stand with Calcedo.
The under-17-2s continued their golden run against Keysborough, which was dismissed for 102. Jackson Dalton (39) and Shaun Walsh (29) smashed Keysborough bowlers to be 0-71 from 18 overs at stumps.
A superb 47 from under 15-2 opener Andrew Lawless helped Hampton Park to 178 against Endeavour Hills.
