WHILE an overnight thunderstorm washed out play for Cranbourne's turf teams, most of the Eagles' synthetic grades got a start on Saturday.
In A grade, an inspired spell from under-17 prodigy Mark Weeding put the Eagles into a winning position in their match against Fountain Gate.
Combined with another up-and-coming under-17 bowler, Cameron Dinger (2-18), Weeding (4-31) tore through the Gators' batting line-up to have them on 6-27.
A middle-order fightback put some respectability on the Gators scoreboard, but Troy Kimball finished the innings, with 3-54 in the opposition's score of 207.
In B grade, the Eagles ran riot with the ball to dismiss Doveton for a 93 in just 32 overs.
In what was an even performance, Clinton Fraser was the pick of the bowlers with 3-22. Dale Walker (3-31) and Daniel Fox (2-14) played vital support roles.
In a day that belonged to the Eagles, they finished the day at 4-72, just 21 runs away from first innings points.
In C grade, the Eagles got away to a good start with the ball, only for Doveton to build an important 121-run stand.
Showing patience, Cranbourne stuck to the task and got back into the contest on the back of some great bowling from young Jordyn Baker (4-11) and Ryan Jones (3-49). Cranbourne dismissed its opposition for 220.
With just seven overs left in the day, disaster struck when the Eagles lost a wicket late in the day, finishing at 1-5.
In D grade, another fine performance by Dominic Ciconte has put the Eagles within reach of a victory against Fountain Gate.
Ciconte was on fire with the ball, taking 4-41 from 12 overs. He received great support from Steve Redgen (4-35) to skittle Fountain Gate for 161.
With 26 overs left in the day, the Eagles made inroads in chasing down the required total with keeper David Pratt leading the way with an important 54 not out, Cranbourne finishing at 2-95.
In junior action, the Eagles had a solid day with the bat to score 159 against Springvale South in under 17-1.
Skipper Blake Pearce led the way with 68 at the top of the order while Jordan Cleland (25) and Cameron Petrie (23) made important contributions.
In under 17-2, a remarkable morning saw 16 wickets fall in the Eagles' match against Narre Warren.
Batting first, Cranbourne could not build any momentum with the bat and was skittled for 92, with Taylor Ross (24) the best of the Eagles batsmen.
But an inspired spell of bowling by the Eagles had Narre Warren reeling at 6-21 at the close of play.
In under 17-3, 23 from James Lesch was the highlight as the Eagles made just 58 against Lynbrook.
In under 15-1, Brayden Roscoe (4-10) was the pick of the Cranbourne bowlers as they rolled Fountain Gate for 101. Brayden Lambden (2-9) and Jordyn Baker (2-12) were among the best.
In under 15-2, a patient Eagles side batted all morning for 86 against against Berwick.
In under 15-3, Cranbourne Gold posted 127 against Cranbourne Blue. Captain Todd Reynolds top-scored with 45, while John Ashby (2-4) and Jarrod McAleese (2-14) were the best of the bowlers.
