Opinion: Teen car tragedy

06 Jul, 2009 09:36 AM
THE loss of young lives in cars has become far too common. Four victims have four families, all of whom will wish that the crash at Hampton Park on June 28 never happened.

Residents, politicians and Casey Council have pointed the blame at the State Government for failing to fix this black spot.

Before June 28, there had been no fatalities at the spot, but a stream of more minor accidents.

VicRoads has said the intersection, one of a long list of priority areas, was under investigation for safety upgrades.

The authority has the unenviable task to ensure the roads system in the south-east of Melbourne can keep pace with the swelling numbers of residents and vehicles.

The sorry fact is there is no single answer, no single person to blame. We all share responsibility.
