CASEY Council paid $18.7 million for remedial works on the methane gas leak near Brookland Greens estate, without going to public tender, the auditor-general found.
The
practice was allowed under emergency provisions in the Local Government Act but the council did not identify when ongoing work at the site would be publicly tendered.
The report stated that the council has since advised all future works at the site would be subject to public tender.
