Market bid won't stall, say backers

06 Jul, 2009 10:18 AM
THE Cranbourne Community Market came a step closer after a second State Government grant last week.

Organiser Kathey Blackmont - who is encouraging prospective stallholders to contact her - said the monthly market was due to open on August 22.

Organisers hope the market, to be held at the Turning Point Family Church on the South Gippsland Highway, will become a monthly community hub, selling fresh fruit and vegetables and local art and craft.

"We're looking for locals as stallholders of course, but people who don't live in Cranbourne can also run stalls as this will still end up supporting Cranbourne."

Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said the Government had provided $50,000. "Projects such as the market are a terrific way of giving people a chance to develop skills and confidence needed to enter the workforce while also offering services to local communities."

The market will also support Cranbourne's existing Room to Grow Community Garden.

Details: Kathey Blackmont, 0427821012.
