About 10 weapons have been handed in to Cranbourne police under the firearms and weapons amnesty. By last Wednesday, residents had surrendered two antique firearms, two air rifles, one .22 rifle, two shotguns, one knife, a machete and an imitation handgun, pictured here with Senior Constable Fi Jeffrey. Sergeant Gavin Buchan said: "We're pleased with the response of people doing the right thing. "Some of the weapons have probably been just sitting around locked up in a shed." The month-long amnesty for Victorians to hand in unwanted or illegal weapons without facing penalties ended last Saturday.
