AN insurer has declined to explain why a Narre Warren South family is still battling to resolve its insurance claims from the Black Saturday fires.
Last week, Carly Hatch told the Journal that family members had been frustrated by the 12-month battle for RACV Insurance to renovate their scorched Langbourne Drive home and car.
As of last Friday, RACV declined to respond to the Journal's inquiries.
Of an estimated 10,280 insurance claims relating to Black Saturday, Financial Ombudsman Service has received 13 insurance disputes. Seven of these disputes have been resolved.
"The small number of disputes we have received suggests that insurance companies have responded well in the circumstances to the reported 10,000-plus Black Saturday [claims] received by the industry," Insurance Ombudsman John Price said.
"The disputes we have received generally relate to where people have claimed for costs/items that their insurance company felt were over and above their entitlement under their policy."
The Insurance Council of Australia estimates that $1.1 billion worth of claims were made from the fires, of which 92 per cent were resolved.
